K.S. Research on Kachana:
Archaeological and Historical.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL
HISTORY

The archaeological history of Kachana Pastoral Station is rich and diverse.

The station has witnessed the passing of Aboriginal people for tens of thousands of years, and in more recent times, European and Afghan explorers, adventurers, stockman and camel drivers.

Kachana Pastoral Stations geographical position, its topographic features and major river systems has meant that it has been used as both a trading route for Aboriginal peoples, by the early Afghan Camel drivers moving between Derby and Wyndham and the Bedford Cattle stock route.

Early explorers and adventurers have also left indicators of their presence. Ethnographic, archaeological and historical research is currently being undertaken and this site will be up-dated as each report is submitted.
